Meet Your Doula

IMG_8167 2.jpeg

Hi! My name is Shay and I am certified Maternal Support Practitioner (fertility, birth, and postpartum doula). I am a wife and mom of 2, native Memphian turned Marylander, Howard alumna (HU, You Know!), and lover of all things birth related.

I grew up in Memphis, TN – a city with infant mortality rates higher than some third-world countries and more maternal mortality cases that could have easily been prevented than not. By the time I entered my late teens, I found myself more and more focused on the health of children in their first year of life and women immediately before, during, and immediately after pregnancy. My love for pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and overall female reproductive health grew the more I studied how health across the lifespan and past experiences can have an effect on pregnancy and birth outcomes.

I studied Biology and Health Education at Howard University  and received a Master of Public Health in Maternal and Child Health from The George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health. I am slated to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Frostburg State University in 2023. I completed Fertility, Birth, and Postpartum Doula training through Bebo Mia, Inc., in addition to certifying as Placenta Encapsulation Specialist with Ashanti Rivera of Woman's Choice Perinatal Services. I am a wife and mother of two, and a birth worker by passion, purpose, and profession.

Becoming a Doula has allowed me to hone in on both the learned and innate skills that are essential in aiding birthers, babies, and their families through the most vulnerable time in their lives. It is my mission to provide completely non-judgmental emotional, physical, and educational support, from preconception to postpartum. I am committed to continuous growth and development of my knowledge of maternal and child health in order to best support my clients and their families in the areas where you need me most.
