What's a Doula?
A doula is a trained non-clinical support person who provides physical, emotional, and educational support during the reproductive and postpartum periods. Doulas may provide a variety of services, from pre-conception throughout end-of-life. CMBS is committed to providing evidence-based, non-biased support during the most vulnerable times in your life. I am committed to being your advocate, working tirelessly to ensure that you have the tools and the knowledge necessary to make it through your journey.
Why do I Doula?
Black women are 3-4 times more likely to die from pregnancy and childbirth-related complications. We have a long, hard history of poor health outcomes - most of which can be prevented. Studies have shown that having a doula present during childbirth results in the birther being less likely to request pain medication, less likely to have a Cesarean delivery, more likely to initiate breastfeeding, and more likely to report an overall positive birth experience. It doesn't matter if it's your first of fourth pregnancy, you need a doula.
